Head of Christ-September 2007

The head of Jesus at the beginning of the prayer garden walk was originally above the entrance of St. Joseph Franciscan Church on Woodland Ave. in Cleveland.  Many drove by this church to go to the Indians or Browns games. The Church was dedicated in 1873. The parish continued until 1986 when it closed. After being declared a local and national landmark, the diocese entered into discussions with many groups to see what use it could be put to. Unfortunately, a vandal started an arson file in January 1993 and the church was torn down a few weeks later. The head of Christ since then has been in the prayer garden at St. Joseph Christian Life Center in Cleveland. The Christian Life Center closed in September and the figure of Christ was moved to Prince of Peace.
